Dr. Paul Hosier, retired from UNCW, will speak on Barrier Island Processes and Human Impacts.

Hosier is professor emeritus in the Department of Biology and Marine Biology at the University of North Carolina Wilmington. Following retirement in 2013, after 41 years of teaching at UNCW, he remains an adjunct professor at the institution. His teaching history includes courses in Introduction to Ecology, Advanced Ecology, Research Methods in Biology, Introduction to Coastal Management, Barrier Island Ecology, and other courses—going way back to 1972!

His research efforts have been directed toward studies of the impact of off-road vehicles on shorelines, the impact of hurricanes on the vegetation of barrier islands, and ecological processes of barrier islands in the southeast.

Hosier has also served the University in an administrative capacity as Director of Academic Computing, and Assistant Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs, Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, and Provost.

Hosier attended New York’s New Paltz State University (B.S.), the University of Massachusetts (Amherst) (M.A.), and Duke University (Ph.D.).
