Join us and guest lecturer, Roger Shew, from UNC Wilmington for a look at Oak Island’s geology, from deep past to current changes. What are the forces that shape it over time and those at work today? Where did our beach come from? Where is it going?

Shew is involved in studies of coastal issues and processes and surface and groundwater sources and quality in southeastern North Carolina. In addition to teaching university courses, he conducts field seminars for industry and education and does outreach to schools. He says his goal is to combine teaching, research, and outreach for the benefit of the community.

Shew has a Masters in Geology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and M.Sci. Ed. from the University of Houston.
